A simple and beautiful village made French terracotta jar, historically used to store walnut oil in 18th and 19th Century France.
A Piece of Rustic French History
Bring the simple, honest charm of rural 18th or 19th Century France into your home with this magnificent antique French walnut oil jar. This terracotta beauty is truly village made, evidenced by the primitive manufacture and the gentle slumps and push marks from the potter’s hands.
The wood firing has left a gorgeous patina, giving the surface a rich texture with beautiful orange and pink-red blooms. You can clearly see its daily utilitarian past in the small chips around the base, which only add to its authentic rustic charm. It features two functional handles on either side of the neck and a pouring spout.
Historically used to store essential walnut oil, this jar is highly sought after today as a stunning decorative piece. It is free of cracks and is a wonderful example of our green and ethical business values, giving unique treasures a new life.
