Discover a true gem from our latest buying trip: a magnificent 19th century French berry bowl. This beautiful, simple piece was made in a village along the rural backroads of France and carries over 150 years of history in a French country kitchen.
Handmade from heavy terracotta, this bowl sits on a single footed base. The interior features a stunning mustard glaze, typical of Southwestern France, with a decorative pattern of pierced holes that originally served to wash soft fruit or strain cheese. The outside is glazed in a rich toffee brown, with wisps of yellow from the potter's hands adding to its authentic rustic charm.
Its wonderfully grazed mustard glaze shows its authenticity and age, adding to its primitive appeal. Amazingly, after all these years, it remains in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. This large bowl is still as practical today as it was when first made, perfect for use as a colander or as a unique fruit bowl to bring the authentic feel of rural Provence into your home.
