**Antique 19th Century French Confit Pot – A Rustic Farmhouse Treasure
Authentic French Country Pottery from Castelnaudary
This early 19th-century French confit pot originates from Castelnaudary in the Aude department of Languedoc-Roussillon, a region famous for its traditional rustic pottery. Dating between 1800 and 1850, this handmade terracotta pot was a staple in French farmhouse kitchens, originally used to preserve meats in rich confit. The dark mustard glaze on the exterior and lighter mustard glaze on the interior add to its timeless charm, while the beautiful glaze drips on the rim reflect the historic firing process, where pots were positioned upside down in the kiln.
Aged Patina & Timeless Character
Every mark on this antique confit pot tells a story. Its crazed and worn glaze, along with cracks and missing ears, enhances its authentic French country appeal. With a slight lean to one side, this piece embodies the imperfect beauty of village craftsmanship. Whether displayed in a farmhouse kitchen, country-style dining room, or vintage-inspired home, this provincial pottery adds a touch of old-world elegance to any space. It can be used as a decorative accent, a utensil holder, or for showcasing dried flowers.
