Handcrafted in a rural village pottery rather than factory-produced, this substantial terracotta jar was built for pure utility. The warm, unglazed exterior body has developed a soft, mellow, earthy patina through centuries of use, contrasting beautifully against a rich dark green glaze on the interior, originally applied to protect the porous clay from oils and brines.
Its most striking and defining feature is the long, hand applied row of metal staple stitch repairs running down the body. Far from a flaw, these iron staples tell a beautiful story of a household vessel that was valued enough to mend rather than discard. Alongside the substantial twin handles and heavily weathered rim, this primitive repair work elevates the pot into a completely unique, highly tactile sculptural object that anchors a modern rustic home with deep history.
