A charming, 19th century French confit pot, most likely originating from the historic pottery town of Castelnaudary. Displaying a soft, pale mustard glaze rich with natural kiln drips, runs, and flame marks, this heavy, hand-thrown vessel is a spectacular example of a "Working Stiff" that brings instant warmth and texture to a neutral, modern rustic home.
THE RUSTIC SHELF
Giving a beautiful future to pieces with a past.
Hand thrown in robust buff terracotta, this traditional provincial pot carries an incredible visual weight and honest, practical beauty. The upper section is finished in a lustrous pale mustard glaze, enlivened by subtle olive underglaze tones that emerge through the surface. During its 19th century wood firing, the intense heat left behind beautiful glaze runs and flame marks that cascade down the body, ensuring it is entirely individual.
In beautiful contrast, the unglazed lower section has developed a mellow, earthy patina from decades of being nestled into cool French larder floors. It features classic twin ear handles sitting neatly beneath the rim. Showing gentle time produced wear to the rim and a historic hairline crack, the pot remains reassuringly strong, stable, and full of lived history. It looks magnificent styled against dark, weathered timber or paired with bright yellow citrus fruit.
