An exceptionally characterful 19th century French confit pot with unique “Shrek-ear” handles and a rich, burnished wood-fired finish

Part of our Working Stiffs Collection, this 19th century terracotta pot is a masterclass in rustic texture. Unlike the usual yellow glazes, this piece features a clear glaze over dark, wood-fired clay, resulting in a deep chestnut surface that looks almost polished. You can see the history in the kiln marks and the rim that has been worn smooth by decades of use. The star of the show, however, are the "button" handles, rounded and expressive, they give the pot a playful, Shrek-like personality that is incredibly rare in traditional provincial pottery.
