A Rare Piece of Italian Artistry
Bring home this absolutely beautiful antique Italian majolica compote, dating between 1840 and 1870, crafted in Deruta, Umbria, a region famous for its ceramic traditions. This bowl is a lovely example of the Renaissance Revival style.
This elegant footed piece with a milky Tin Glaze is hand painted with rich cobalt blues, warm yellows, and soft greens in detailed floral and foliate designs. The centre features a stunning pomegranate and leaf motif, known as “foglia e melograno”, framed by graceful scrolling borders, is another Deruta device revived in the 19th century from 16th century patterns. All sitting atop a raised foot. Each delicate brushstroke speaks of the skilled craftsmanship and centuries of Italian tradition.
