Straight from the heart of the Lot-et-Garonne in Southwest France, a land of sunflowers and medieval villages, these 19th century prune drying racks are a masterclass in agricultural art. Traditionally used for drying the famous prunes of the region under the hot French sun, they are now a striking piece of architectural wall art.

These are true "Working Stiffs." Each rack is handmade, featuring narrow wooden laths held within a tapering, teardrop shaped frame. The wood is beautifully sun faded and timeworn, with a patina that shifts from pale honey to smoky brown. Because they were hand-crafted for the harvest, no two are identical; they carry the slight warping and softened edges of a century spent working for their living.

With my background in supplying unique props for  set dressing (Outlander & Pottery throw down), I’m always hunting for pieces that provide "visual air." These racks are incredibly sculptural:

  • As Wall Art: Their 45-inch height makes them a dramatic vertical statement. Hang them as a pair or a trio to bring instant texture to a kitchen or dining room.

  • Modern Rustic Texture: The open lath construction allows the wall behind to breathe, making them feel light yet historically grounded.

  • A Piece of the Lot-et-Garonne: They evoke that earthy, poetic atmosphere of a traditional French farmhouse.

The Nitty-Gritty:

  • Origin: Southwest France (Lot-et-Garonne)

  • Period: 19th Century

  • Height:

  • Width: at the widest part.
