Beautifully striking Large 18th Century Grogged pottery salting pot from Western France. Grogged clay is a clay with ground up old pots and broken pots from The kiln added to it which makes a super strong pot perfect for cooking, storage and resistant to abrasion bangs and knocks. Originally used for preserving meat in layers of salt. The Grogging gives the pot a beautiful tactile texture unglazed outside with a brown glaze inside. The pot has the initials of the owner P F pressed in.
