A beautiful and rare antique French Cruche or Gargoulette from the Agen region of South West France, dating to the early 19th century. Traditionally used for carrying wine or water out to the fields, this rustic piece is full of history and authentic country charm.

Made from a heavy, buff-coloured terracotta, it features green-glazed bibs to the spout and handles in a typical style from the region. Uniquely, this Cruche has three handles, one for carrying and two for drinking, making it a rare form that was both functional and beautifully designed. It still retains its original lid, which is seldom found.

Naturally aged with a couple of old chips to the top handle, minor base nibbles  and a small chip to the lip, these imperfections are part of its story and only add to its authentic, timeworn appeal.

Whether styled as a stand-alone piece, used to hold dried flowers, or added to a collection of antique pottery, this Cruche brings with it the soul and simplicity of early French rural life.
